What is biko?

Biko is an app that seeks to improve the quality of life in our cities by encouraging cycling as a method of transportation. For every kilometre you log in the app, you receive 1 biko – a digital currency that you can earn globally but redeem locally. Then, you then can exchange these bikos, or kilometres cycled, for exclusive rewards from our local partners – all while tracking calories burned and kilograms of CO2 saved!

We are currently live in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Portland & Seattle in the US; Vancouver & Toronto in Canada; Bogotá, Medellín, Bucaramanga, Cartagena, Villavicencio, Chinchiná & Cali in Colombia; and Mexico City in Mexico.

Does Biko use mobile data when logging a trip?

No, Biko pulls the information from the GPS that comes built into your phone, so no data is consumed while you’re en route! However, Biko does require data (or wifi) in the following situations: synching your rides with our servers, navigation or redemption of rewards, navigation of the map, editing your personal profile, and connecting with Facebook & friends.

I live in a city where there are rewards available, but sometimes I can’t see all of them. Why?

Don’t worry, the rewards are still there! It is possible that you are just outside of the limits as to where these rewards are shown. Try cycling in a bit closer to the partner in question and redeem there!

I logged a trip in the app, but wasn’t awarded any bikos! What do I do?

Oh no! Please send us an email with the details of your trip, as well as the email with which you registered for Biko with. With that information we can look into why this happened and credit your account with the missing bikos.

I redeemed for a reward, now what?

First, read the terms and conditions associated with the reward to ensure you follow the instructions correctly. Then either head into the business (or enter the code at checkout online)! If your offer is for in-store, all you need to do is slide the “mark as used” button to the right once you have claimed your offer.

When I went to save my ride I got a message saying high speeds were detected and as a result my trip wasn’t saved. Can someone restore the missing biko points for me?

Please write us at support@bikoapp.com letting us know what happened, as well as the email address you used to sign up for Biko. Screenshots always help! We promise that no trips go without earned bikos!

I have one or several trips that have a yellow symbol next to it. What does that mean?

These are pending activities or rides to synchronize with our servers. All you need to do is close the app on your phone, make sure you are connected to wifi or using cellular data and then sit tight while the app connects to our servers!

I can not see the map, the rewards, or my profile. What’s going on?

We recommend checking that your phone is either within wifi or using mobile data. If you are using one or both of these networks and still having issues, please send us an email at support@bikoapp.com and we can look into this further!

What are the minimum operating system requirements on my phone to use Biko?

Biko requires running iOS 8.1 or later on your iPhone and 4.0.3 and up for Android devices. Unfortunately, we are no longer supporting previoius versions.

There are no Biko partners in my city yet, can I still earn points?

You absolutely can. You can log trips and earn bikos anywhere in the world!

I logged a trip in the app but then the app crashed and didn’t register the activity

I logged a trip and all of the measured metrics (speed, kilometres & calories) all recorded zero. Why did this happen?

You may have problems with your GPS. We recommend that you activate the high precision mode, verify that the app has the necessary permissions and deactivate any saving mode of battery or power.

I am trying to redeem for a reward but keep getting an error message reading “Platform error”. What do I do?

Please send us an email letting us know the email address you used to sign up for Biko, the city you are redeeming the offer in, as well as the partner and product you are trying to redeem for. With all of that information we can look into why this is happening!
